Virtual Rebel Gains Visibility as Registered Student Organization

Virtual Rebel, UNLV’s online-only news site, attained registered student organization status, increasing its visibility in the UNLV community.

The Office of Civic Engagement and Diversity granted Virtual Rebel its registered student organization status in September. Now Virtual Rebel can request funding from the Consolidated Students of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (CSUN), UNLV’s undergraduate student government.

“Virtual Rebel’s becoming a registered student organization takes us to a new level of awesome,” said Kim Ulmanis, managing editor. “The status will help us grow and become more visible in our community.”

The Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies sponsors Virtual Rebel, giving JMS students a place to showcase their work. With the potential of funding from CSUN, Virtual Rebel plans to increase website functionality with a new search function and navigation system.

Becoming a registered student organization also increases Virtual Rebel’s legitimacy, allowing the publication to reach out and connect with more people in the community.

A growing organization, Virtual Rebel strives to promote and encourage journalism students. This is just the first step in the online publication’s journey toward growth and success.
